Stagecoach teams up with Ramblers to offer bus-connected walks in Lincolnshire

Stagecoach East Midlands, Lincolnshire County Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, East Lindsey District Council, Love Lincolnshire Wolds, National Trust, West Lindsey County Council and the Lincolnshire Ramblers, have worked together to launch a series of walks, which are focused around Stagecoach’s Interconnect bus services.

Seven walks across the Wolds, which have been tested by the Lincolnshire Ramblers, have been specifically designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors. Walking Guides will be available on-line and on-board the buses running Interconnect 53, 56 and 100 services.

To celebrate the launch of the Interconnect Bus Walks, walking enthusiasts and families are invited to Gunby Hall, part of a National Trust property, on 18 July to take part in one of the walks appearing in the Guide.

Those who complete the walk will receive a free water bottle and a healthy snack, plus the chance to win Go Outdoors vouchers and talk to Stagecoach East Midlands staff and councillors in attendance.

The National Trust and the Lincolnshire Ramblers will lead walks throughout the day, following the route covered in Guide Number Five. People are encouraged to bring along their dogs, children and friends for a day of enjoying the countryside. The walk is approximately 4miles and suitable for mixed abilities.

Experienced rambler and health walk leader Ann Ransome, 58, has been walking with the Lincolnshire Ramblers for over 10 years. She regularly walks between 3 and 6miles a day, often using the bus to take her to the routes.

She says: “We have access to some of the most stunning scenery in Lincolnshire only a short ride away on a bus. It’s so easy to forget to take time to appreciate the beauty around us with everyone leading such busy lifestyles.”

In her role as health walk leader, she encourages people who have recently lost a loved one or are recovering from illness to get fitter and meet new people in a friendly environment. “Walking for me has become part of my day-to-day life and is the best way to explore our beautiful surroundings whilst creating an opportunity to meet new friends and stay fit and healthy. The Interconnect Bus Walks provide access to some fantastic routes suitable for all ages”

Matt Cranwell, managing director, Stagecoach East Midlands says: “We are delighted to be launching the Interconnect Bus Walks and promoting the beautiful countryside around us. Our Interconnect bus services make these amazing walks more accessible and we hope they will appeal to people of all ages and abilities.”

Cllrr Colin Davie, executive councillor for economy & place, Lincolnshire County Council, says: “The collaborative approach to the Interconnect Bus Walks project is offering an accessible way for people to get active. These beautiful routes are easily reached by bus, so we thank Stagecoach East Midlands for opening them up to those who live out of the area. Lincolnshire is filled with stunning countryside and areas of natural beauty just waiting to be explored and I am delighted that Stagecoach’s buses are bringing these closer to our doorstep.”

This is the latest initiative from Stagecoach East Midlands focusing on health; the company has just been awarded the Bronze Healthy Workplace and Leading the Way award by North Lincolnshire Council for introducing the health and wellbeing policies for employees. The work is improving the lives of staff by running health awareness days, cancer screening opportunities, the provision of fresh fruit, access to healthy recipes and nutritional advice.
